The meaning of "cooperative society" is "united effort". Simply "cooperative" refers to the joint effort made to achieve one's own economic well-being. In its purest form, it refers to a group of people from the same class who voluntarily come together to achieve their common goal of economic betterment through mutual help. Such an organization is called a "Cooperative society" when it is formed with the intention of conducting business in accordance with the principles of "cooperative law". The core idea behind this is that all of us, in unity, should strive for the best and promote mutual help and cooperation.
For the formation of a general or primary cooperative society, a minimum of 20 individuals residing in the same area who are eligible to receive benefits are grouped together. They are called Proprietors or entrepreneurs. At the beginning, at least 6 members are selected from among the entrepreneurs. This are as follows:
1. Chairman (one person)
2. Secretary (one person)
3. Treasurer (one person)
4. General Members (two persons)
Application for registration: During this period, the concerned individuals who are responsible for the co-operative society of the concerned area, need to collect the necessary application form from the co-operative organization. Before completing the form, they need to collect the necessary documents and submit them along with the form to the registrar. In this case, the following documents should be attached with the application form:
☞ Name, address, and signature of the proposed committee members
☞ Three copies of procedure along with the signature of the entrepreneurs
☞ Sample of Seal of Co-operative Society
☞ Application form properly filled out according to the law, as per the declaration given by the owners.
